About the Frank Bowling Foundation

The Frank Bowling Foundation was established by constitution and registered with the Charity Commission (Charity number 1206694) as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) on 24 January 2024 to advance public understanding and appreciation of the visual arts, nationally and internationally, through the work of Sir Frank Bowling OBE RA. With a practice spanning Europe, Guyana and the US, Sir Frank occupies a central place within transatlantic abstraction.

The Foundation holds the Frank Bowling Archive and a collection of artworks. These provide a comprehensive overview of Sir Frank’s oeuvre and include paintings, preparatory drawings, photographs, correspondence, exhibition catalogues, studio objects, writings, and audiovisual. Each year, we lend a substantial number of works to public exhibitions around the world, ensuring that Sir Frank’s work remains in active dialogue with audiences globally.

Through bursaries, funding opportunities, public loans, and ongoing research, the Foundation will continue Bowling’s longstanding commitment to nurturing creativity, curiosity and confidence in future generations.
